Radon testing measures the radon level inside your home in becquerels per cubic metre (Bq/m³), the only way to know if you are above Health Canada's 200 Bq/m³ action level. Because the Okanagan is a high-radon region, every home here should be tested. If your level is high, we design and install a mitigation system and re-test to confirm the fix.
Why test for radon in the Okanagan?
You cannot see, smell, or taste radon, so testing is the only way to know your level. The Okanagan and BC Interior are high-radon areas, with BC CDC and Interior Health data showing a large share of homes above the action level. A test turns an invisible risk into a clear number you can act on.
Free test kits vs. certified testing
The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) and Interior Health offer free radon test kits, and they are a great first step. What is the radon action level?
Health Canada's action level is 200 Bq/m³. Homes above it should be mitigated within two years, or within one year if the level is over 600 Bq/m³. Read more in Radon in the Okanagan.
What happens if my level is high?
If your test comes back above the action level, we design an Active Soil Depressurization system for your home, install it in about a day, and re-test to confirm radon is back below the guideline. See Radon Mitigation.
